Do I knit? Do I knit? Does a bear poo in the woods?

1) When did you first learn to Knit?

I was 4

2) WHY? or What inspired you to pick up the needles?

My nan bought me a set. Every gal in my family learned to knit at like age 4.
3) Tell me about your first completed project:

ummmmmm, I can't remember it, it was over 20 years ago. But my first project that I can remember is a cardigan I made for a friend of mine in 2003. I made it out of kitchen cotton (hahaha such nasty shit)and it came out really good. I bought like 13 balls because I didn't know the difference between buying for yards and weight.

4) Tell me about your "never-ending" project:

My mothers cardigan I started for her birthday in April 07

5) Do you feel a "closeness" with all knitters?
They are just like any other people. Some of them I think are idiots and knit with crap shit.

6) What is your craziest knitting memory?

I dunno. I do enjoy knitting all night long. I love those nights where you are soo tired that the pattern starts to change.

7) You walk into a yarn store and find out that you're the 10,000 customer! Now you have 15 minutes to grab anything/any yarn and it's YOURS...FOR FREE! What do you go for?

See, people would normally go for like the most expensive stuff. Not me. I go for quantity over quality. Sure I would grab a nice expansive yarn like some silk or cashmere. But I would find my favorite rowan yarns and get the stock they have. I'm into making garments right now, so 10+ balls of the good mid grade yarn

8) Do you have a favorite method? (DPs, circulars, etc?) WHY?

I love knitting in the round. Because no purls.

9) Do you have a favorite project? WHY?

Ummm, raglan jumpers and cardigans. Because there is no seaming and you can try them on as you go.

10) Is there a website or book you reccommend to new knitters/your friends?

www.knitty.com and www.ravelry.com

11) When people find out YOU KNIT, what is the most common reaction you receive?

They think I will make them a fucking fun fur scarf. Then they are annoyed when I tell them that I am a yarn snob and that stuff is shit. But normally the most used question is "will you make me a sweater for free?"

12) Have you ever knitted in public?

Duh, at least once a day.

What's your name? and AGE? and contact info (email)?
Maureen, 35, fourlipskissing@yahoo.com

1) When did you first learn to knit?
2004

2) WHY? or What inspired you to pick up the needles?
Everyone was doing it and I thought I'd try it, too. Plus, I like making things.

3) Tell me about your first completed project:
My first completed project was the longest scarf in the history of the world, knitted on Size 13 needles and using the softest yarn ever. It was huge and long and hole-y and, well, not that great.

4) Tell me about your "never-ending" project:
My friend, Suzanne, asked for a scarf ... four years ago. I'm still knitting it. Sort of. I made her a hat instead, which she wears all the time when she goes camping.

5) Do you feel a "closeness" with all knitters?
I don't because a) I'm not that good and b) I live in South Florida and no one here knits.

6) What is your craziest knitting memory?
Ugh. Really? Frogging half of my projects because I got bored with them. That's not really crazy, though.

7) You walk into a yarn store and find out that you're the 10,000 customer! Now you have 15 minutes to grab anything/any yarn and it's YOURS...FOR FREE! What do you go for?
Bamboo needles and Brown Sheep Co.'s Lamb's Pride Worsted in Limeade and Grey Heather! Or Noro Kureyon No. 217, self striping!

8) Do you have a favorite method? (DPs, circulars, etc?) WHY?
Circulars and DPNs. I love making hats and this is the easiest way.

9) Do you have a favorite project? WHY?
Hats! They're fast and easy and they might be the only thing I could wear on that one chilly day in Florida.

10) Is there a website or book you recommend to new knitters/your friends?
"Stitch 'N' Bitch" ... no doubt! That's how I learned. Craftster.com is a great, too. And knitty.com! Awesome!!

11) When people find out YOU KNIT, what is the most common reaction you receive?
"Aww, how cute!" and then, "Can you make me something?"

12) Have you ever knitted in public?
I've knitted on a plane. Is that public? LOL

BIO: What's your name? and AGE? and contact info (email)?

Amy San Juan, 33 years old and nyracat@gmail.com

1) When did you first learn to Knit?
I was 29

2) WHY? or What inspired you to pick up the needles?
I was watching HGTV and there was a knitting show on and it looked like something I actually could do that wasn't all "pins and needles and scraps of fabric"

3) Tell me about your first completed project:
Scarves... Many many scarves... All done with cheap yarn and only with the knit stitch. I didn't learn how to purl until last year

4) Tell me about your "never-ending" project:
Right now all of them are never ending because I only knit when it's cold out (it's my winter/by the fire hobby) but I'm working on a sampler pillow and the seed stitch panel is kicking my butt (see, I'm still learning)

5) Do you feel a "closeness" with all knitters?
Not really in person, but online I feel like a part of a "gang" or something... Albeit the "kid sister" because I'm really inexperienced

6) What is your craziest knitting memory?
I can't say that I have one... But probably knitting at work and having everyone call me an old lady.

7) You walk into a yarn store and find out that you're the 10,000 customer! Now you have 15 minutes to grab anything/any yarn and it's YOURS...FOR FREE! What do you go for?
everything, because I have so little. Lots of great sock yarn (if I knew how to kint socks that would make it even cooler) and lots and lots of notions.

8) Do you have a favorite method? (DPs, circulars, etc?) WHY?
Honestly, I don't know

9) Do you have a favorite project? WHY?
I personally just really love to make scarves. They're easy busy work and I can do them pretty quickly.

10) Is there a website or book you reccommend to new knitters/your friends?
ravelry.com

11) When people find out YOU KNIT, what is the most common reaction you receive?
either:
a. that's so hip right now, what have you made?
or
b. don't old ladies do that?

12) Have you ever knitted in public?
Yep, at work and at the yarn store (that's probably not really public) and in the mall once and the dentist office. :) Whenever I have to wait for Fred somewhere.
